BHB Salts In The Burntide Formula

What BHB Is

Beta-hydroxybutyrate, usually shortened to BHB, is a ketone body. It is not an exotic compound — your liver produces it whenever carbohydrate availability is low, such as during fasting or on a low-carbohydrate diet, and your muscles and brain can use it as fuel.

So BHB is part of normal human metabolism. What is newer is taking it as a supplement rather than producing it yourself.

What BHB Salts Are

BHB on its own is an acid and is not practical to put in a product. To stabilise it, it is bound to minerals — in Burntide, to calcium, magnesium and sodium.

That is why the Supplement Facts panel declares small amounts of each: sodium 2.5 mg, calcium 1 mg and magnesium 0.75 mg per gummy. Those minerals arrive with the BHB rather than being added as a separate supplement.

Why BHB Is In Burntide

Supplemental BHB salts are commonly used to support energy availability, particularly by people following lower-carbohydrate or ketogenic eating patterns. The idea is straightforward: providing a ketone the body would otherwise have to make itself.

It is also the reason there is no stimulant in the formula. BHB is an energy substrate rather than a stimulant, so it does not produce a caffeine-style lift or the crash that follows one.

Being straight about the evidence stage

Research on exogenous ketones is genuinely active and genuinely early. Most of it comes from exercise physiology and low-carbohydrate research rather than from weight-management trials.

Two honest points. Much of that research uses amounts considerably larger than a single gummy could hold. And taking BHB does not put you into ketosis or replicate a ketogenic diet — only your own diet does that.

The Sugar Point Worth Knowing

Burntide is a gummy, and gummies need a base. The other ingredients include corn syrup and pure cane sugar, and the panel declares 2 g of total carbohydrates and 2 g of total sugars per gummy.

If you are taking BHB specifically because you follow a ketogenic diet, that is worth factoring in. Two grams is a small amount in absolute terms, and whether it fits your day is your call rather than ours to wave away.

BHB Safety Notes

  • Sodium. BHB salts contribute sodium. At 2.5 mg per gummy this is very small, but it is worth knowing if you are on a restricted-sodium diet.
  • Digestive comfort. Larger amounts of ketone salts are associated with stomach upset. That is less likely at the amounts in a single gummy.
  • Kidney conditions. Anyone with kidney disease should speak to a doctor before taking mineral salt supplements of any kind.
  • Diabetes. If you manage diabetes, particularly type 1, discuss any ketone supplement with your doctor before use. This is not a self-directed decision.

The Dose Question In Burntide

The BHB sits inside the 525 mg proprietary blend with the apple cider vinegar, and the split is not published.

One useful clue is on the panel itself: the declared minerals total just over 4 mg. Since BHB salts are largely BHB by weight with a mineral portion attached, those small mineral figures suggest the BHB portion is modest rather than at the gram-level amounts used in ketone research. We flag that as an observation rather than a calculation, because the blend is not disclosed.

Our Honest View

A genuinely interesting ingredient at an early stage of research, in an undisclosed amount, delivered in a format that also contains a small amount of sugar. Worth understanding properly rather than buying on the strength of the word ketone.
